Let's get 50,000 new books for NE.  Currently in 4th place.  It only takes a minute.
Folks,
The "What Book Got You Hooked?" campaign for 2009 has begun and runs through September 30th (see below).  This is another chance to help win 50,000 free, new books for Nebraska children.   Please start voting yourself and pass this along to all of your Nebraska friends and family members.  It's simple to do and costs nothing, but the benefits could be great.  We've finished 2nd and 3rd the last two years and have come up empty.  It's time Nebraska children won the books.  Thanks!

Waverly Middle School and High School is in session!

I don't think they are as enthusiastic as the elementary students in getting back to school but there was still some excitement as they stood in line for buses last Thursday.  It probably had more to do with seeing each other and friends not seen as much during the summer months!

School at Eagle Elementary is in session!

The kids and parents were both excited Monday, August 17 as the kids went back to school at Eagle Elementary.  I know I'm sappy but I can't help to get all choked up each year on the first day of school.  It is a reminder that another has passed.  I then try and look forward to the next year we are entering.

The excitement was wonderful though.  You could feel the anticipation in the air.  I hope you enjoy the pictures capturing some of the excitement.

Auditions at the Lofte Community Theatre August 17, 2009  Manley, NE --The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces that it will hold open auditions for Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore's "Lie, Cheat and Genuflect."

Auditions will be held at the theater on Monday, August 31st and Tuesday, September 1st at 7PM, and will consist of cold readings from the script.  The production will be directed by Kevin Colbert.

The story is a fast-paced farce about two brothers, one of whom has the unlucky penchant of picking the slowest horse at the track.  They've already borrowed from the local loan shark, and while there's plenty of money in Grandfather Buckle's will, it's a sure thing that these two black sheep will never see a dime.  What's left to do except have one brother dress up as the favorite cousin, who happens to be a nun?

Other characters include a stuffy lawyer, a hard drinking housekeeper, and a trio of beautiful women.   Performance dates are October 9-11, 16-18, and 22-25.   Questions may be sent to Kevin Colbert by calling the theater, (402) 234-2553 or by sending an email to LofteDirector@Lofte.com
