I am putting together this weeks newsletter while watching the Inauguration of the 44th president of the United States. Close to 3 million people traveled to bear witness to today's events. Whatever race, sex, religion or political party we attach ourselves to, we cannot deny what a historical day it is. Our new president not only has to shoulder the weight of being President of the United States but he has a lot of America's hopes, dreams and expectations there also.
We always say what a small world this is:
James Kroeker is the son of Dave and Carolyn Kroeker who lived in Eagle many years. James (Jim) attended Eagle Elementary along with his sister Christy, brother Mike and another sister Amanda. The reason for this e-mail - James Kroeker is now SEC's chief accountant - I was told he answers to President-Elect Obama.

Nebraska Reads A Lantern in Her Hand, by Bess Streeter Aldrich (posted: 12/5/2008)
NOTE: This announcement to libraries will be revised to a news release for the public, when the summer date is finalized and the Website is available:
One Book One Nebraska 2009 invites citizens across the state to read A Lantern in Her Hand, by Nebraska author Bess Streeter Aldrich. Through a broad-based nomination process, the Nebraska Center for the Book board narrowed the choices, read all the finalists, and voted to select A Lantern in Her Hand, a classic story of a pioneer woman who withstands the adversity of existence on the prairie to triumph in the joy of everyday life. Libraries across Nebraska are encouraged to join other literary and cultural organizations in planning for 2009 activities and events that will encourage Nebraskans to read and discuss this story. Support materials to assist with reading/discussion activities will be distributed in early 2009. See the Library Commission Blog, http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/blogs/nlc/2008/11/one_book_one_nebraska_2009_neb.html for an ongoing discussion of library tools and programming ideas for One Book One Nebraska 2009.
One Book One Nebraska 2009 is sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book, Nebraska Humanities Council, Nebraska Library Association, Nebraska Library Commission, and the University of Nebraska Press. This year the reading celebration is hosted by the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation, www.bessstreeteraldrich.org. The Foundation will sponsor activities throughout the year to help highlight One Book One Nebraska.
As part of the One Book One Nebraska celebration, the Foundation will also work with Nebraska Library Commission staff in a cooperative effort to digitize Aldrich-related materials and photographs of artifacts. They will make them available via the Internet through the Commission's Nebraska Memories online searchable database.

While dropping off one of my children this morning I was reminded that I had mentioned I would like to hear from other parents in regards to the parking lot situation at Eagle Elementary. If you would like to send suggestions on how to improve or just observations you have made, please do so. Lets see if we can improve the way it is currently being done. Thank you!
Also, if you have any news you would like to add to our community website or would like to see, please let me know. Thank you!!
