Thank you...
Thank you, Mr. Burke for your response to the "Where Were The Sirens" story.
The lack of our sirens Monday evening was very disturbing and frustrating. I especially appreciated your points on everyone needing a weather radio. I also hope that everyone is able to get one.
I think that what upset people the most was the fact that no one seemed to taking responsibility or explaining why the sirens hadn't gone off. There was a lot of reporting that there had been conflicting reports whether the sirens went off or not. And everyone who lives here knew they did not go off.
I did not know that you had no other warning than everyone else. Since the power went off as the storm hit, that just confirms you have very little time to sound the sirens. I had thought you were notified prior to a storm hitting so that sirens could be sound. I guess I always thought this was what we could rely on. That's a little scary.
This was very eye opening. I hope that everyone in the community takes your suggestions on obtaining a weather radio. This seems to be a better option than our sirens are. You would at least have a little more warning.
I again want to thank you for your response. It is nice to be able to have an answer to our questions straight from someone who would know. I also want to point out that not only did you take the time to respond to the story but ALL of our fire fighters are volunteers and have jobs and families. This does not go unnoticed and is VERY appreciated. Thank you.
