Eagle Elementary Things to come....
Thursday, September 24th is the PTE Meeting at 7:00pm in the Media Center.
Friday, October 2nd will be the 4th grade Heritage Festival.
Monday, October 5th, District #145 School Board Meeting will be held at Eagle Elementary at 7:00pm
Thursday, October 8th you will need to pick up your Club's Choice food delivery from 4:30 - 6:30.  Money for these items is due during pick up.
October 23rd will be Grandparent's and Special Friend's Day.  Some changes are being made to the schedule for this day to help alleviate parking concerns and large numbers of visitors at one time.  More information will be sent home in the next few weeks.
Speaking of parking.....I have mentioned a few times that I have some concerns about the parking in the "parent lot" at the Elementary school.  As I am just one parent my voice is not as strong as it could be if more people would speak up with me.
This year is by far the worse year in the parking lot so far.  As spaces are very limited even before school gets out you have parents parking all along the horse shoe curb as well as in front of the parents in spaces on the south side of the lot.  When this happens the kids cannot see their parents in the spaces and you have to either get out (which is not possible for parents with little ones in the car sleeping) or they have to wait until the cars move and drive up to the curb anyway.  The spaces that are closest to the school are mostly full well before the first parent arrives at the end of the day.  As I have noticed on several days, anywhere from 14 - 23 spaces are taken in the "parent lot" after school has begun and prior to school getting out.  I have brought this up to the administration for the last 8 years.  Each year I have hope that something can be done help organize this mess.
The mornings work out fairly well.  Parents pull up to the curb and the kids get out and the cars keep moving.  That is until you have the parent that has to get out or sits there for one reason or another and then everyone has to try and back up and go around this car.  This ends up being more dangerous than the kids walking through cars to get to the curb.
I welcome your ideas, thoughts, concerns and comments on this issue.  Please, let me hear your voice!

Eagle Co-ed Softball
I can only speak for myself as I have not recieved pictures or stories from other teams.  My team is being sponsored by the One Eyed Dog Bar/Restaurant.  We started the year with a 26 - 2 loss.  We improved at our next game with a 13 - 1 loss.  Our third game got better with a 13 - 5 loss.  Our last game was our best yet.... yes, we actually won (16 - 14)!  We are all having a great time as a team and with the other teams we have played (win or lose)!  As I have mentioned before, if you want to head outdoors for an entertaining time...games are played on Sunday afternoons at the Eagle Memorial Ball Field.  My team will play at 3:30 this Sunday and we could use some support!!  Come on out!

McClellan Singing Sisters
Tiffany, Kimberly, Jewel and TaMera graced Eagle United Methodist Church with their beautiful voices on Sunday.  These talented girls sang with all they had.  It was wonderful to see them joke around with each other as sisters do but also TaMera the 8 year old liked to hold her big sisters hands as they sang.  You could tell they are a close knit family.  Before they sang TaMera joined the other children in sunday school.  She fit right in and made friends easily.  Afterwards the whole family joined the members of the church in a pot luck.  The morning was full of faith, good friends, good food and great music!  They will be joining us again in December.  Look for that date to come!

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

EXPANDED ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm Announces New Attractions for Fifth Season

Guests attending the fifth-annual Pumpkin Festival at Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm, rural Avoca, NE, will be treated to some new attractions this season.  The pumpkin patch and agri-entertainment venue has been expanded for 2009 to include hay rides and the newly renovated Schoolhouse Café.

“For many people, when they think of the ultimate pumpkin patch experience they envision a hay ride out to the pumpkin field.  We are very excited to finally be able to offer this experience to our customers,” say farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen.

A certified concession kitchen has been added to the 1890’s one-room schoolhouse which the Lorensens moved to the farm and restored last year.  Guests can order from the lunch menu which includes hot sandwiches and homemade pie, and then enjoy their meal at tables in the authentically restored classroom.

“This is a one-of-a-kind dining experience.  While we’ve been serving lunch for the past three seasons, having a certified kitchen and a building dedicated to the Café will allow us to better serve our customers, will make work easier for our employees, and should offer us new opportunities to produce our own baked goods and food mixes in the future,” Teresa Lorensen said.

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm’s Pumpkin Festival runs every Friday through Sunday from September 19th to November 1st.  Hours are 1:00-6:00 p.m. Fridays and 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.  The farm is open at other times by appointment for field trips and parties.  The $4.00 admission charge includes access to all the attractions on the farm, including the opportunity for every visitor to take a hay ride.

For a complete schedule of events, which include special days such as Military Family Weekend, Doggy Day to benefit the Capital Humane Society, and Ag Day with the Conestoga High School FFA, visit the farm’s website, www.BloomPumpkinPatch.com.

Eagle website readers,
My name is Valentin Poposki; I’m a member of Flags of the World (FotW) mailing-list, devoted to flags. We aim to present flags from all parts of the World on our website: <http://flagspot.net/flags/index.html>.
I write to you in hope that you can help me find information regarding the flag of the Village of Eagle NE, so it can be presented properly on Flags of the World. We are interested in any kind of flag - official or unofficial, centennial, former or obsolete flag, or even the flag of some of the departments. To do this, we would need an image of the flag, or even a clear photo of a real flag. (Any graphical format would do: gif, jpg, png, bmp, …) This image would then be used to base a standard FotW image on, which will be used on the website. To do this we hope to add other information about your flag, like the adoption date, the official description and meaning, the name of the flag designer, etc. if available.
I’m also involved in the preparation of a twin-website, Emblems of the World (EotW). For this, I hope you can provide me with an image of the official seal or logo of your village, as well as with the same data as for the flag.

Yours faithfully
V. Poposki

Recycling in Eagle!

RecycleLink is now in Eagle!  Currently, they have about 40 households in Eagle recycling and  would like to let the rest of the town know how easy and much trash has been saved from the landfill because of their participation in recycling at the curb. They will also be contacting the elementary school to see if they would be interested in participating in our Green Schools Grant program. Green Schools is a way RecycleLink gives back to local schools to help raise funds for green education. Last year they raised over $2400 to help purchase recycling containers, plant trees, build a can collection point and host field trips to our recycling facility.

Some quick facts about what they do:

RecycleLink offers every customer a 65 gallon cart to mix all the households recyclables in, no need to sort, peel labels or remove lids

The RecycleLink cart keeps the recyclables in one place on windy days keeping the neighborhoods clean and free of blowing papers

RecycleLink customers in Eagle along with Lincoln area recyclers recycle nearly triple the national average each month by recycling over 70 Lbs a month

RecycleLink customers put their recyclables to work saving them over $25 a month on groceries, dining out, clothing, gift cards, magazines, and much more when using their RecycleBank Points.

Customer can also donate their points to schools and local non profits helping raise money for those in need

You can also check out our local website www.recyclelink.net and our partner’s national site www.recyclebank.com
