Parking at Eagle Elementary
I brought up the subject of parking at Eagle Elementary in my last Newsletter.  I also asked for input from all of you.  I have received several comments from people mostly in agreement.  I received one letter in particular that made me realize that there is an even bigger problem that the one I previously mentioned.  I am including her letter below.  I hope you find it as eye openin as I did.  I would like to keep the invitation open to send in your responses on both sides of the issue.
Hi there,
I was just reading through the newsletter and wanted to comment on the parking situation at the elementry school. I live directly across the street from the school and when there is a school function going on, I have to battle with the parked cars every time! I consider myself lucky if I walk outside and am not blocked in on my own driveway....not sure why this happens, since everyone who drives knows it is illegal to do, but it still happens. And its not that they block the entire thing, but its more like half of it....they can't fit their car into the almost non-existing spot so they are sticking out into my driveway. And they tend to always block my mailbox too....and if that happens, then the postlady will not leave my mail for me that day, so I find it completely unfair that I get punished because certain folks can't be bothered to walk a few extra feet to get to the school! And I can't even began to discuss how horrible the traffic can be!! I always have to plan to leave 10 minutes earlier than usual so I can get to work on time.
I don't want to sound horrible....but alot of this issue is common sense and just being decent to others that live in the area. I mean, its not like I am going to their house to block their driveway and stop their mail from coming that day.  So I guess I just would like the same respect. I have talked to the school secretary about it before and was told they would remind parents to be careful when parking, but it hasn't ever changed. I thought that maybe by mentioning it in your newsletter, more folks would at least think about it next time they are here. And you are 100% correct when you say there has to be a better way to park and get people in and out of there.  My sister-in-law finds it easier to park here at my house and walk up to get her kindergardener than trying to fight an open spot in the parking lot....plus she has a 6 month old that she has to get in and out everyday because like you stated, she can't see her son when he comes out because of where she has to park.
There honestly has to be a better way to handle it!  I just want a way to remind folks that there are people that live on this street and they need to have enough respect not to block my driveway or my mailbox. Just a friendly reminder would be much appreciated!!
But basically, I completely agree with you about the parking lot up there...there just has to be a better way to handle all the traffic. And if the teachers would park in the back, that would open up so many more spots for the parents at the end of the day. When I was a student there, the teachers and staff was required to park back there, no questions asked. I think that would help alot.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration!!

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

EXPANDED ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm Announces New Attractions for Fifth Season

Guests attending the fifth-annual Pumpkin Festival at Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm, rural Avoca, NE, will be treated to some new attractions this season.  The pumpkin patch and agri-entertainment venue has been expanded for 2009 to include hay rides and the newly renovated Schoolhouse Café.

“For many people, when they think of the ultimate pumpkin patch experience they envision a hay ride out to the pumpkin field.  We are very excited to finally be able to offer this experience to our customers,” say farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen.

A certified concession kitchen has been added to the 1890’s one-room schoolhouse which the Lorensens moved to the farm and restored last year.  Guests can order from the lunch menu which includes hot sandwiches and homemade pie, and then enjoy their meal at tables in the authentically restored classroom.

“This is a one-of-a-kind dining experience.  While we’ve been serving lunch for the past three seasons, having a certified kitchen and a building dedicated to the Café will allow us to better serve our customers, will make work easier for our employees, and should offer us new opportunities to produce our own baked goods and food mixes in the future,” Teresa Lorensen said.

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm’s Pumpkin Festival runs every Friday through Sunday from September 19th to November 1st.  Hours are 1:00-6:00 p.m. Fridays and 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.  The farm is open at other times by appointment for field trips and parties.  The $4.00 admission charge includes access to all the attractions on the farm, including the opportunity for every visitor to take a hay ride.

For a complete schedule of events, which include special days such as Military Family Weekend, Doggy Day to benefit the Capital Humane Society, and Ag Day with the Conestoga High School FFA, visit the farm’s website, www.BloomPumpkinPatch.com.

Eagle website readers,
My name is Valentin Poposki; I’m a member of Flags of the World (FotW) mailing-list, devoted to flags. We aim to present flags from all parts of the World on our website: <http://flagspot.net/flags/index.html>.
I write to you in hope that you can help me find information regarding the flag of the Village of Eagle NE, so it can be presented properly on Flags of the World. We are interested in any kind of flag - official or unofficial, centennial, former or obsolete flag, or even the flag of some of the departments. To do this, we would need an image of the flag, or even a clear photo of a real flag. (Any graphical format would do: gif, jpg, png, bmp, …) This image would then be used to base a standard FotW image on, which will be used on the website. To do this we hope to add other information about your flag, like the adoption date, the official description and meaning, the name of the flag designer, etc. if available.
I’m also involved in the preparation of a twin-website, Emblems of the World (EotW). For this, I hope you can provide me with an image of the official seal or logo of your village, as well as with the same data as for the flag.

Yours faithfully
V. Poposki

Recycling in Eagle!

RecycleLink is now in Eagle!  Currently, they have about 40 households in Eagle recycling and  would like to let the rest of the town know how easy and much trash has been saved from the landfill because of their participation in recycling at the curb. They will also be contacting the elementary school to see if they would be interested in participating in our Green Schools Grant program. Green Schools is a way RecycleLink gives back to local schools to help raise funds for green education. Last year they raised over $2400 to help purchase recycling containers, plant trees, build a can collection point and host field trips to our recycling facility.

Some quick facts about what they do:

RecycleLink offers every customer a 65 gallon cart to mix all the households recyclables in, no need to sort, peel labels or remove lids

The RecycleLink cart keeps the recyclables in one place on windy days keeping the neighborhoods clean and free of blowing papers

RecycleLink customers in Eagle along with Lincoln area recyclers recycle nearly triple the national average each month by recycling over 70 Lbs a month

RecycleLink customers put their recyclables to work saving them over $25 a month on groceries, dining out, clothing, gift cards, magazines, and much more when using their RecycleBank Points.

Customer can also donate their points to schools and local non profits helping raise money for those in need

You can also check out our local website www.recyclelink.net and our partner’s national site www.recyclebank.com
