Before and After School Child Care....
The Foundation for Education held an informational meeting for parents and interested parties Monday, October 26 at 6:30 in the Learning Center at Eagle Elementary. The Foundation for Education has sponsored the Before/After School program for K-5 students in Waverly since November 2008. The FFE is planning to expand this program to Eagle in January 2010. They are looking at January 6 as the start date but this all depends on many other factors.
The School District 145 Foundation for Education was established in 1990 to secure the financial resources needed to enhance the quality education our children are receiving. The Foundation strives to accomplish this through innovative programs, creative opportunities and imaginative approaches that will:
*Enrich the school's curriculum
*Inspire students and staff
*Expand our community's involvement in public education
All parents interested to learn more about this program were invited to attend this meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to share details of the Before/After School program, to provide information regarding the porcess for implementing the program at Eagle, and to answer questions that parents may have had.
There are five different options availble to choose from.
Option #1: Morning only $15.00 per week
Option #2: 1 Hour after school $15.00 per week
Option #3: After School to 5:45pm only $28.00 per week
Option #4: Morning & 1 Hr after School $25.00 per week
Option #5: Morning & after School to 5:45pm $40.00 per week
There will also be a yearly registration fee of $25.00.
Payments are due by Wednesday of the prior week. Please give two weeks notice if changing options.
The Before and After School Program does not provide morning snacks. Breakfast is available from the school caferteria at student prices. Students can also bring in their breakfast to finish up. Meal accounts are handled through the school's main office. The program does provide an afternoon snack.
The meeting was really informative. There were a lot of great questions asked and answered. The Foundation is building the Before and After School Program based on what has and has not worked in the Waverly program. They will be putting together a committee that will meet monthly to see what is and is not working for our community. They want to make sure you have a voice in this.
I am worried about the time line being implemented. We are entering the first week in November and the Fire Marshall has not been to the school to pass the area being used for the program. The Foundation needs to hire at least two people to staff the Program. They would like to have these people train with the Waverly Progam for at least one week. Since school will be out for Holiday break after December 19, this does not leave much time for hiring and training. I'm sure I can speak for most when I say I wouldn't want the hiring process rushed. The Foundation will be doing background checks but the drug testing will have to be done through the Health Department which the Foundation has no control over how fast these tests are done. I would wait on telling your daycare provider anything until there is a confirmation on the start date.
Registrations for Before and After School Program can be picked up at Eagle Elementary or downloaded from the District 145 website by clicking on the Foundation for Education tab. http://www.dist145schools.org/ It is being asked that you have your registration completed and turned in no later than December 1, 2009.
You can pick up an employment application at Eagle Elementary as well. It was also recommended that you send in a resume. They will be hiring a Site Supervisor as well as other staff.
I am asking if you have comments and/or questions, please let me know and I would be more than happy to post them on the newsletters to come.
If you have specific questions, you can contact Dr. Bill Heimann, Superintendent (402) 786-2321 (bheimann@esu6.org) or Jan Basine, Program Director (402) 525-8170 cell or (402) 786-0499 home.
Grandparents/Special Friends Day at Eagle Elementary
As usual Grandparents/Special Friends Day at Eagle Elementary was a huge success! It was done a little different this year. The day was split in two. From 9:00 - 11:30 grandparents/friends spent the morning with students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. From 12:30 - 3:00 was spent with students in 3rd grade through 5th grade. The teachers at Eagle Elementary all parked at the park while the principal helped shuttle them to the school. While this was extremely inconvienent to the teachers it was much appreciated by the guests. Thank you! Another Thank you goes to Big Apple Bagels for donating all the bagels for this special day!
Volleyball
Thank you!
I would like to thank the Eagle community for the donations made to the Eagle Food Pantry. With the economy as it is we are serving more families each month. I am so proud of the people who live in our little town as I know I can always count on them to come through with donations to keep the shelves stocked. The cash donations that have been coming in are just wonderful. When someone stops me and hands me cash for the food bank it just makes my heart smile. I wish I could personally thank everyone who has donated to the cause but that is just not possible. Please know that I appreciate your support so much as do those who visit our little food pantry. We could not do it without the help of all of you.
Blessings, GeoAnn Reynoldson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
EXPANDED ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH
Bloom Where You're Planted Farm Announces New Attractions for Fifth Season
Guests attending the fifth-annual Pumpkin Festival at Bloom Where You're Planted Farm, rural Avoca, NE, will be treated to some new attractions this season. The pumpkin patch and agri-entertainment venue has been expanded for 2009 to include hay rides and the newly renovated Schoolhouse Café.
"For many people, when they think of the ultimate pumpkin patch experience they envision a hay ride out to the pumpkin field. We are very excited to finally be able to offer this experience to our customers," say farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen.
A certified concession kitchen has been added to the 1890's one-room schoolhouse which the Lorensens moved to the farm and restored last year. Guests can order from the lunch menu which includes hot sandwiches and homemade pie, and then enjoy their meal at tables in the authentically restored classroom.
"This is a one-of-a-kind dining experience. While we've been serving lunch for the past three seasons, having a certified kitchen and a building dedicated to the Café will allow us to better serve our customers, will make work easier for our employees, and should offer us new opportunities to produce our own baked goods and food mixes in the future," Teresa Lorensen said.
Bloom Where You're Planted Farm's Pumpkin Festival runs every Friday through Sunday from September 19th to November 1st. Hours are 1:00-6:00 p.m. Fridays and 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The farm is open at other times by appointment for field trips and parties. The $4.00 admission charge includes access to all the attractions on the farm, including the opportunity for every visitor to take a hay ride.
For a complete schedule of events, which include special days such as Military Family Weekend, Doggy Day to benefit the Capital Humane Society, and Ag Day with the Conestoga High School FFA, visit the farm's website, www.BloomPumpkinPatch.com.

Eagle website readers,
My name is Valentin Poposki; I'm a member of Flags of the World (FotW) mailing-list, devoted to flags. We aim to present flags from all parts of the World on our website: <http://flagspot.net/flags/index.html>.
I write to you in hope that you can help me find information regarding the flag of the Village of Eagle NE, so it can be presented properly on Flags of the World. We are interested in any kind of flag - official or unofficial, centennial, former or obsolete flag, or even the flag of some of the departments. To do this, we would need an image of the flag, or even a clear photo of a real flag. (Any graphical format would do: gif, jpg, png, bmp, ...) This image would then be used to base a standard FotW image on, which will be used on the website. To do this we hope to add other information about your flag, like the adoption date, the official description and meaning, the name of the flag designer, etc. if available.
I'm also involved in the preparation of a twin-website, Emblems of the World (EotW). For this, I hope you can provide me with an image of the official seal or logo of your village, as well as with the same data as for the flag.
Yours faithfully
V. Poposki
