"Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas" at the Lofte
Manley, NE [November 19, 2009]-
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that its holiday production of Robert Fulgham's "Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas" will open on Friday, December 4. Fulgham is perhaps best known for writing the humorous book, "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten." Directed by Kevin Colbert, "Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas" weaves together a string of Christmas stories and original holiday songs. It is a charming look at the struggle to find the spirit of Christmas amid the avalanche of commercialism and chaos that descends upon us each December. Actors will be accompanied on stage by Lynnette Zimmer playing a baby grand piano onstage through much of the show. The cast consists of Chuck Danskin of Lincoln, Virginia Kincaid of Elkhorn, Scott Pope of Eagle, Anna Strobel of Omaha and Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water. Performance dates are Dec 4-6, 11-13 and 17-20. Showtimes are 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday. Tickets are $16, and reservations can be made by calling the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553 or purchased online at http://www.lofte.com/.
The Lofte Community Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization supported in part by The Cooper Foundation, The Midlands Community Foundation, and the Cass County Visitors Promotion Committee. The Lofte Community Theatre is dedicated to providing opportunities for area residents of all ages to participate in the creation process and companionship of live theatre in rural Nebraska and to enjoy the social, artistic, and educational benefits of this art form.
Lofte Community Theatre Receives Tree Planting Funds
Manley - The 2009 Trees for Nebraska Towns (TNT) has awarded tree planting grants to twenty-seven projects in twenty-three communities in Nebraska. The TNT community landscaping grant program is managed by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum (NSA) and funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET)
Manley is one of the communities that received landscape funds through this program. The Lofte Commuity Theatre Windbreak Project received $12,880. Anne Pope applied for the funds and will coordinate the project.
TNT was developed to address tree loss in Nebraska and to improve the overall health, sustainability and species diversity of Nebraska's community trees. It is coordinated by Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Inc. and is part of ReTree Nebraska efforts to plant a million trees by 2017 (http://www.retreenebraska.edu/). To help achieve these goals, the Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET), a beneficiary of the Nebraska Lottery, is providing $1 million in grant funding to enable high-quality tree planting and associated landscaping in communities across the state. For more information about the TNT program contact NSA at (402) 472-2971.
The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum is both a non-profit horticultural organization and a program of the Nebraska Forest Service, part of the University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. NSA achieves its mission of "sustainable landscapes for healthy homes and communities" through initiatives in education, community landscapes and the environment (arboretum.unl.edu).
