In case you missed last weeks School Board meeting...

Several parents and teachers both past and present stood up and passionatly discussed why our school district would suffer if the school board went ahead with the administrations recommondations for budget cuts.

Gail Swiggart, President of the Waverly Education Association had some recommendations from the Nebraska State Education Association.  The first suggestion was to make cuts as far from the classroom as possible.  There were several other suggestions that included: reducing or eliminating travel, reducing legal fees, reducing administration levels to a minimum and not creating new administrative or non-instructional vacancies.

She also sited 79-1083.01. Reductions in school district budget; legistlative intent.

It is the intent of the Legislature that any reductions in a school district budge, made to comply with the budget limitation in the Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act, affect calssroom expenses as a last resort.

AJ Cassel spoke at some length about her experiences as a teacher, a parent and tax payer.  She urged the school board members to be proactive NOT reactive, please slow down.

Shannon Berry reminded the board members that communication is important for parents.  It decreases the shock value.

Education is an investment and not an expense.  We can't afford to ignore this.

Tracy Christianson, President of the Eagle Elementary PTE expressed our need to compensate our teachers and do it well.  This is what our children deserve.

Kristal Rash told of the struggles her and her family had moving to Eagle.  She said knowing everthing she's been through to get here (Eagle) and stay here for the school district she would like to reiterate all of the points being made by everyone and to start at the Top and NOT the bottom.

After hearing about the budget cuts recommendations by the administration I am more confused than ever.  Our teachers are already going above and beyond without compensation.  Now we want to ask them to do more for less??  How is this going to be good for our kids?  We are asking more of our kids everyday.  With larger classes we are at risk of having our kids that struggle fall through the cracks.  I don't understand why this would even be considered.  Of course I am still confused why administrators get paid so much while the people in direct contact with the children are always at risk of loosing so much.  Like RTA.  Were most of you aware that RTA was done away with this year?  Why would a program that worked so well and so many parents agreed with be cancelled and not discussed.  It's in the handbook that this is way the school handles dicipline.  How do you put something in the handbook and then do away with it without full disclosure?

Please let me know what your thoughts are on these subjects.  You can reach me by email, fax or phone.  We owe it to our kids to not back down on this.

Eagle Elementary Fun Run 2010!

Hello Runners!

Race season is quickly approaching!  Please join us for our 2nd Annual Eagle Fun Run on April 24th.  This year's run will again feature a 10K run and a 5K run/walk in an out-and-back-course run on the beautiful MoPac trail.  In addition to prizes for top three men and women in each race, we will again have a drawing at the conclusion of each run for some great prizes.  This year we are excited to be able to offer a dri-fit shirt option for our adult runners.  The shirts will be silver/grey with the same front and back commemorative design as our t-shirts.  If you would prefer a dri-fit shirt instead of a t-shirt, be sure to select your size, check the dri-fit option and include an additional $10.

Because of your generosity last year, we were able to raise nearly $1,500, which put the finishing touches on fundraising for new playground equipment at our school.  The new equipment is installed and enjoyed everyday by our school children!

Please share this registration form with your friends, family and co-workers.  We look forward to seeing you on April 24th!

Prevent Colon Cancer and Stay Well

This is an important email to get out as this month (March) is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. A friend passed away from complications attributed to very advanced Colon Cancer because he was unaware. It has also affected many other people who are family and friends but I'm happy to say that because of alerts like this one, they didn't ignore their problems and they are still alive and well.

Please join us in the fight against all Cancers - plan to register for the 2010 Relay For Life of Cass County on Saturday, June 26, 2010. Information can be found at the Cass County web site - www.relayforlife.org/casscone or call the Omaha ACS office at 402-393-5801.

Weeping Water First Christian Church 2010 Concert Series starts with an awesome concert on April 3, Saturday at 7PM featuring One Voice.  Since it's humble beginnings as a church duet in 1995, One Voice has always had as it's goal to share the gospel of Christ through song.  Over the years, that goal has been met over and over as hundreds have chosen Christ as Savior through this ministry, and thousands of others have been blessed through the music of One Voice.

Realizing that their ministry is not just to the congregations, One Voice has as a major goal to uplift and encourage pastors all over the United States and abroad.  As the song says, if "just one more soul were to walk down the aisle," it would be worth every effort made on that behalf.  Our pastors need support, and the guys are determined to do just that.

The guys see their mission as just that, missions.  Musical missions.  Hearts can truly be inspired, uplifted, and changed through music.  The guys don't take this responsibility lightly, and they choose their music carefully because of that understanding.  The power of music is truly awesome, and God sets great store by it. One Voice from Kansas City area have deep roots in Southern Gospel, and it comes out in their traditional Southern Gospel style. "Capital City Buddy Walk" on

October 2, 2010 at 8:00am.

Event: Capital City Buddy Walk
       "Who is YOUR buddy?"
What: Fundraiser
Start Time: Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 8:00am
End Time: Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00am
Where: Antelope Park

The one-mile, Capital City Buddy Walk, hosted by the Down Syndrome Association for Families.

The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to bring together a wide range of concerned individuals to reach out to friends, family and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and to raise funds for education, research and advocacy programs. The walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to more than 280 nationwide (one in every state) with over 230,000 participants.

Many of you probably already know Natasha and James Dobbins.  They have two beautiful children Lily and Jimmy "Buddy".  Buddy was born with Down Syndrome as well as other complications.  He had open heart surgery on August 3, 2009. He had complications from a nicked lymph node...which caused what they called a chylothorax with plural infusion. Which means they nicked the lymph node and that caused the lining of his right lung to fill with fluid and lipils, which collapsed his right lung. We have dealt with apnea monitors, oximeters, oxygen, prescription formula, feeding tube and all kinds of stuff. RIGHT NOW... he's fine. He is almost 9 months and 13 lbs. He is still on lasix, prilosec, and sildenafil. But that should be short lived. All thats left is to deal with the down syndrome. Which I can deal with. ;)

The Dobbins family is inviting everyone to join them in the "Buddy" walk on October 2nd at Antelope Park.  They would love to see a big team from their town there to support them!
