Spring is in the air!

So are allergies, dust, you name it.....  I guess it's time to begin the spring cleaning.  I got a little start by calling Blue Monarch Floor Care.  It's a local business and they do a GREAT JOB!!  I was kind of embarrased when owner, Dirk Wingrove asked what might be on my four year old's carpet and I couldn't really identify it.  He didn't make me feel bad about it all though (actually acted like it was pretty normal)!   Whatever it was, he got it out and the carpet looks better than ever.  Can I make a rule no kids on the carpets period??  OH well, guess we'll have Blue Monarch back again soon!

BIG MONEY IN WILDLIFE WATCHING

(Ord, NE) - There's big money in wildlife watching.  Just look at the figures: over the past 20 years, participation in wildlife watching, particularly bird watching, has increased nationally by more than 266%.  Conservative estimates put the value to the US economy alone at over $40 billion dollars.  During the same time, national participation rates both in hunting and fishing continue to decline.

Jim Mallman of Watchable Wildlife Inc. will be hosting several workshops to share insights about how entrepreneurs, outfitters, individuals, businesses and municipalities can build nature-based or wildlife tourism programs.  Workshops will be held in Red Cloud on May 18, Ord on May 19 and Ogallala on May 20.  These workshops are especially suitable for current Nebraska outfitters looking to diversify their non-game season by building wildlife encounter experiences.

Workshops begin at 8:30am and run through 4:00pm with lunch and refreshments provided.  The cost for early-bird registration is $25 if participants sign-up before May 11.  The cost for late registrants is $40.  For more information, including registration forms, visit the Nebraska Development Network Central Region website at http://www.ndncr.com/ or contact Sharon or Jodi at (308) 995-3190.

Eagle Elementary Fun Run 2010!

Hello Runners!

Race season is quickly approaching and so is the deadline to get your $5.00 discount!  Please join us for our 2nd Annual Eagle Fun Run on April 24th.  This year's run will again feature a 10K run and a 5K run/walk in an out-and-back-course run on the beautiful MoPac trail.  In addition to prizes for top three men and women in each race, we will again have a drawing at the conclusion of each run for some great prizes.  This year we are excited to be able to offer a dri-fit shirt option for our adult runners.  The shirts will be silver/grey with the same front and back commemorative design as our t-shirts.  If you would prefer a dri-fit shirt instead of a t-shirt, be sure to select your size, check the dri-fit option and include an additional $10.

Because of your generosity last year, we were able to raise nearly $1,500, which put the finishing touches on fundraising for new playground equipment at our school.  The new equipment is installed and enjoyed everyday by our school children!

Please share this registration form with your friends, family and co-workers!  We look forward to seeing you on April 24th!

 Greetings!

The 2010 Watchable Wildlife Conference will be held in Kearney, Nebraska October 5-7, 2010 at the Holiday Inn & Conference Center. Mark your calendar and plan to join your colleagues at North America's 19th annual meeting of wildlife and tourism professionals.

This year's conference will present in-depth sessions concentrating on how local communities, businesses and private land owners can profit from the continuing growth in Wildlife/Nature Tourism. Meet and talk with leading wildlife managers, business owners, authors and tourism marketing professionals in the field of wildlife/nature tourism.

Sessions on Using Social Media, Marketing & Promotion, Risk Management & Assessment and Prairie Restoration are just a few of the other topics being planned. The new Digital Bridge to Nature Teacher Workshops and workbook publication will also be previewed.

Kearney, Nebraska has been the site for one of the most successful and longest running wildlife viewing festivals, The Rivers & Wildlife Festival. In a state where over 90% of the land is privately owned, this is just one of many wildlife/nature tourism projects formed through public and private partnerships. Breakout sessions will explore how these partnerships are planned and implemented for the benefit of the communities as well as the partners.

The wetlands in the Sandhills, tallgrass prairies and the Rainwater Basin in the central part of the state make Nebraska one of the last strongholds for many species. Nebraska's biological treasures include 60 amphibian and reptile species, 80 fish species, 400 bird species, 95 mammal species, 1470 plant species and tens of thousands of invertebrate species distributed among 70 community types.

South central Nebraska contains important staging (resting) habitat for many bird species during migration. More than 300 bird species have been observed along the Platte River. Among these, 80% of the world's sandhill cranes use the central Platte River each spring. Approximately 50% of the mid-continent population of mallards, 1/3 of all northern pintails and 90% of mid-continent greater white-fronted geese use Nebraska's Rainwater Basin each spring.

The Kearney Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center will be the host site, and reduced conference rates matching government per diems have been arranged. For more information visit http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/reservation and click on Kearney, NE Holiday Inn & Conference Center or call direct at 308-237-5971.

We will keep you posted on the program, speakers, and conference activities with periodic e-messages as well as the conference page of our website http://www.watchablewildlife.org/

We look forward to seeing you in Kearney, Nebraska October 5 - 7, 2010!

First Christian Church 2010 Concert Series

Faith Singers from Missouri

May 1, Saturday @ 7PM

Free Admission w/ Love offering taken

402-269-5508

Weeping Water First Christian Church 2010 Concert Series starts with an awesome concert on May 1, Saturday at 7PM featuring Faith Singers
Faith Singers have been singing together since May 2004.  Our first  road trip out of state was to Apache Junction, Arizona near Phoenix.   While there we ministered in several RV Parks and just had a wonderful time praising our Lord.  Since then God has allowed us to travel and sing for His glory to many places.   We find no place too small or to large to minister.  Our commitment is to our Lord and Saviour and we will do our best to meet the needs of those we serve.    Faith Singers are members of Mo-Kan Gospel Music Association, out of Independence,  Missouri, Country Gospel Music Association out of Branson, Missouri and Christian Music Ministries out of Shawnee Kansas.   Faith Singers received the Silver Heart Award for Accapella Artist of the year for the Central Division of Country Gospel Music Association, in 2006 and 2007. For the last several years we have sang at the Missouri State Fair, we have been on stage at the Wyandotte County Fair and at many festivals in the northern Missouri area. . The concert is free admission and will be located at the First Christian Church, 306 W. H St. with a love offering taken for the ministry. For more information contact 402-269-5508 or http://www.faithsingerslive.com/

Get Lost in the Weeping Water Valley!

The Scenic Weeping Water Valley spreads from Elmwood to Murray, from Highway 1 to Highway 34. Communities within this valley are Union, Murray, Manley, Nehawka, Avoca, Eagle, Alvo, Wabash, Weeping Water, Elmwood, and Murdock. This scenic area, offering so many unique commercial, historical and cultural destinations, has been literally undiscovered by the surrounding metropolitan areas.

The Scenic Weeping Water Valley Association (SWVA) is made up of 15 area businesses seeking to increase public knowledge of the Valley and its treasures.  To help kick-off the summer vacation season, the SWVA is holding a cooperative event during the weekend of April 24 & 25.  Special discounts will be available to those who specifically mention the "Get Lost" promotion; thus encouraging residents and tourists alike to "Get Lost in the Valley" and rediscover its treasures.

The list of promotions is so extensive that the SWVA encourages people to visit their website, http://www.visitthevalley.org/ to view everything being offered during the last full weekend in April.  Those without access to the web may call SWVA President, Barb Slattery of Slattery Vintage Estates in Nehawka with any questions.

"Capital City Buddy Walk" on

October 2, 2010 at 8:00am.

Event: Capital City Buddy Walk
       "Who is YOUR buddy?"
What: Fundraiser
Start Time: Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 8:00am
End Time: Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00am
Where: Antelope Park

The one-mile, Capital City Buddy Walk, hosted by the Down Syndrome Association for Families.

The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to bring together a wide range of concerned individuals to reach out to friends, family and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and to raise funds for education, research and advocacy programs. The walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to more than 280 nationwide (one in every state) with over 230,000 participants.

Many of you probably already know Natasha and James Dobbins.  They have two beautiful children Lily and Jimmy "Buddy".  Buddy was born with Down Syndrome as well as other complications.  He had open heart surgery on August 3, 2009. He had complications from a nicked lymph node...which caused what they called a chylothorax with plural infusion. Which means they nicked the lymph node and that caused the lining of his right lung to fill with fluid and lipils, which collapsed his right lung. We have dealt with apnea monitors, oximeters, oxygen, prescription formula, feeding tube and all kinds of stuff. RIGHT NOW... he's fine. He is almost 9 months and 13 lbs. He is still on lasix, prilosec, and sildenafil. But that should be short lived. All thats left is to deal with the down syndrome. Which I can deal with. ;)

The Dobbins family is inviting everyone to join them in the "Buddy" walk on October 2nd at Antelope Park.  They would love to see a big team from their town there to support them!
