Congratulations Erik and Erin!

Did you turn in your survey?
If you attended parent/teacher conferences last week at Eagle Elementary school, you were given a survey to fill out. Heather Brown is working with the school and the Eagle Village Board to apply for a grant that will pay for sidewalks, crosswalk signals, safe houses, literature about the benefits of walking to school and incentives for the kids who do it.
If you have not turned in the survey, please turn it into the office at the school ASAP.

PTE Surprises Eagle Elementary Teachers!
Story by: Wendi Retzlaff
Friday, October 1st, marked the end of the week long Scholastic Book Fair at school. Scholastic has always provided books that kids love to read at great prices. Most of us were probably unaware of how the Book Fair actually benefitted our school. If sales totaled at least $3,000, Mrs. Hestermann got 60% of total sales to purchase books for the library. Actual sales for the week were $4,090 which earned $2,454 in books for the library! According to Scholastic this is a record for Eagle.
Teachers and students had the opportunity to preview the Book Fair and make wish lists of items they would like. The teacher's wish lists were posted at the Book Fair and students could purchase and donate books to their classroom libraries. On Friday, the PTE surprised the teachers by purchasing books off their wish lists and presenting them to the classrooms. Many of the books the teachers had picked out go along with a specific project they are doing in class. For example, third grade picked out Velma Gratch and the Cool Butterfly to go along with their science project of watching the life cycle of a butterfly. Fourth grade picked out several fiction books. Other classes picked Fall and Halloween themed books. In all the PTE purchased 51 books totaling $303.02 plus the library got an additional $181.81 to spend. That is an overall impact of $484.83!
We can all appreciate the importance of reading and books in our lives. Our teachers do an outstanding job of preparing students, challenging them and getting them excited about reading. The PTE values the commitment our teachers make and surprising them with books for their classroom libraries is just one way in which we can show our appreciation.
Parents are asking for answers
As the school year goes on parents are still searching to answer the questions that have lingered on. The issues that have grown so that they have to be prioritized are still present. The frustration can be felt not only from parents but from teachers, administration and yes....the kids. Where did the lack of communication happen? When did it begin? How can we fix it?
It is still my opinion that the administration, teachers and parents are all on the same side working towards the same goals. I hope that through better communication we can still work to achieve those goals.
What are your thoughts? What are your concerns? Those mentioned most lately are still math, reading, discipline, parking and communication. I still recommend that you contact your child’s teacher, your child’s principal, the superintendant for School District 145 and then finally the school board. It's important to have an understanding of why things are done before we can ask how to make them better.
Let me hear from you! What do you like about our school and/or district? What would you like to change? How should we change?
And as always, I welcome YOUR input! Please send me your Letters to the Editor, comments, questions, or concerns. Let me know about your celebrations! Send me your anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions! If you don't like what you see, let me know that too! Keep talking Eagle!!
